Alan had an illustrious career as a sports writer serving the public for nineteen years with the Newport News Daily Press from 1972 through 1990.  During that time, he covered eleven fast-pitch Regional tournaments and eleven Metro tournaments.  His articles ran at least five times a week.  Also was also the fast-pitch statistician for the Central Region and followed the local teams to the National tournament to write articles.  For this, he was awarded the National ASA Writers’ Award three times.  In 1982, ASA flew him to Oklahoma City to judge a softball writing contest.  Alan served our Association and softball in a professional manner.
