Anne Thompson

One of the great female fast-pitch players ever to play in Tidewater is Anne Thompson.  Anne was an All-Star shortstop for super teams like Snow Whites, Gregory Brothers, The Norfolk Rams, and Hampton Comets.  With a career that started around 1943 and ended in 1963 with the demise of women’s fast-pitch in Tidewater, Anne always batted in one of the first four positions in the batting order.  Although never playing in an ASA National tournament, Anne played in an ASA State tournament almost every year of her career.  As for stats, they were not kept during her playing days, and as she puts it, “We played strictly for the love of softball, and for the joy of winning.”  Anne’s lifetime batting average was .350 with a Golden Glove.
