Bernadette Ponder started playing softball in her early teens on the sandlots with the boys.  She went on to play for Bayside High School and was a standout player.  From 1977 through 1988, she played with the Travelers, a Hall of Fame team.  During that time, she played in six Metro tournaments, two Regional tournaments and six National tournaments.  In 1989, her team won the Class B National tournament in Drifton, Pennsylvania, and she was selected to the All-Star Team.  Bernadette also played on the Y-Not Co-Ed Team.  They won two TVASA Championships and she was MVP both times.  In all, she won fifteen MVP awards, TVASA All-Star three times and three times won the homerun contest.  Bernadette was also selected to the TVASA Defensive Team twice.
