Betty Ripley

Inducted 1988

A star in both the game of fast- and slow-pitch softball, Betty pitched in both games.  She started playing at the ripe old age of twelve in the Portsmouth Recreation Leagues and continued her play until 1974.  During that time, Betty played in two ASA Nationals with the Hall of Fame Travelers’ softball team and four Regional tournaments.  She was also a member of the 1970 Travelers’ team that executed a triple play in the ASA National tournament.  In fast-pitch, Betty excelled as a pitcher, throwing numerous one-hitters, one no-hitter and an abundance of shutouts.  In one game, she threw a fifteen inning 1-0 victory while playing with Virginia Dairy.  In addition to Virginia Dairy and The Travelers, Betty played and stared with the teams of Gregory Brothers and Snow White.
