Bob played ASA softball for some twenty-five years and, at the time of his induction, still excelled at the game. Over the years, Bob played in six ASA National tournaments (five Open and one Class A), his first coming in 1963 with the All-Service Team, then in 1969 with the powerful Virginia Door Team, with Cee Bass Realty in 1973, and in 1975 with Friar Tucks. During his lengthy career, Bob won eighteen MVP awards that ranged from the All-Army Tournament in 1963 to the 1984 Class C Metro Tournament. Along the way, Bob was selected to the old Municipal League All-Star Team four times and to five All-Tournament Teams that included the 1963 All-Army and All-Service Teams; the 1964 Charlottesville Bankers Team; in 1966 the Virginia State Bankers Team and to the 1984 Class C All-Metro Team. Besides an outstanding career as a player, Bob was an ASA umpire since 1966 and worked many Metro and Regional tournaments, He was the president of the old Municipal League and, at the time of his induction, was the association commissioner for recreation leagues in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake for the EVOA. |
