Buck began playing softball in 1967 and continued to play and sponsor a team for the next thirteen years.  Buck led his team to three Regional tournaments and three second-place finished in the C.A.C. tournament.  In the 1977 C.A.C. tournament, Buck was the MVP, leading his team (River Oaks Shell) to the championship.  Buck was instrumental in helping form the Metro League and was co-sponsor of the Eastern Virginia Tournament for several years.
