Bullet started his career in umpiring ASA softball in 1962 and, through the years, became known as one of the best ‘plate’ men in fast-pitch softball.  Bullet worked five Regional tournaments over the years including the Men’s Major fast-pitch in 1968 in Washington, D.C. and in 1984 in Hampton, Virginia.  In addition to the local and Regional championships worked, Bullet umpired the Women’s Major Fast-Pitch National Tournament in 1973.  He so impressed the tournament officials that he was selected by the national staff to umpire the 1974 Women’s Fast-Pitch World Games.  He was the only umpire from Tidewater to have been selected to work this caliber ball.  In addition to his credits as an umpire, Bullet was also known for his outstanding play as a fast-pitch catcher from 1943 and 1956.  During his fast-pitch career, Bullet played on the State Championship Moose Lodge Team.  Other local teams that Bullet played with included Parker’s Open Market, Hagler’s, B&B Market and Eagles.
