Charlie started his ASA career in 1951 playing fast-pitch with the Wide Rice Yacht Club for two years.  After fast-pitch died out in Norfolk, Charlie took up slow-pitch playing with Freddie’s Drive Inn from 1957 to 1961 and from 1962 until his retirement with the Chesapeake Athletic Club.  In 1960, Charlie was part of the organizing committee that put together the C.A.C. tournament that was played annually and was one of the most prestigious in Tidewater ASA softball.  In addition to his team play in ASA ball over the years, Charlie was president of the old Municipal League for five years; director of the C.A.C. tournament for three years; past president of the Norfolk Sports Club; past president of C.A.C. (four times); and, voted Sportsman of the Year by the Norfolk Sports Club.
