Charlie started playing in the early sixties, mostly with the Norfolk Department Firefighters.  He played in numerous Metro and Regional tournaments and attended seven National Industrial Tournaments with the Norfolk Firefighters.  With the Firefighters, he came out of retirement each year to play in twenty National Firefighter Tournaments.  He was a disciplined batter with a keen eye that enabled him to earn many walks.  At the time of his induction, Charlie was still playing softball in the Senior League and had been to two Senior Nationals.
