Danny Ripley started playing fast-pitch softball in the early forties in the youth leagues.  Afterwards, he pitched for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) team in the Portsmouth Adult League.  While in the service, he pitched for his military team winning a championship in 1958.  Upon his discharge, he returned to play for NNSY again.  Danny pitched many no-hitters, one-hitters, two-hitters, and numerous shutouts.  When fast-pitch faded, he played slow-pitch and his team reached the State finals in Richmond before losing.  During Danny’s forty-year career, when not pitching, he played several defensive positions so as to take advantage of his good bat.  He hit several home runs to win games.  Before retiring, he managed a church team.
