Donald Perry

Player

Inducted 1990

Virginia Door was inducted into our Hall of Fame in 1985.  As of 1990, five of their players were inducted.  Donald Perry was one of those.  Donald played for thirty-three years, from 1951 through 1984.  The first ten years, he played fast-pitch and had a very respected batting average of .300.  The other twenty-three years, he played slow-pitch.  Donald played in five Regional tournaments and four National tournaments with the Virginia Door team.  In 1972, he batted .778 in the National tournament in Jacksonville, Florida.  Donald was well-known for his defensive skills at second-base.  Because of his acceleration when running to first-base after hitting the ball, he made many a third-baseman and shortstop rush their throw to first-base, usually too late.  Donald played in over 2,000 games during his career.
