Ed Tyree

Special Recognition

Inducted 1996

Ed started playing fast-pitch softball in the late forties.  He had a high batting average and led his team in homeruns.  When slow-pitch softball took over, many teams approached him, but choose to play for Park Place Baptist in the Church League for the rest of his career.  He maintained a batting average over .600.  His church teams won two City Championships and three second-place finishes.  Ed Tyree is credited with being the first player to hit four homeruns in a game, a common event today, but unheard of in the 1950s.  During his nineteen years of playing, he was considered the best first-baseman to play the game.
