Elmer Zartman
Special Recognition
Inducted 1998
Elmer Zartman gave a lot to the game of softball in that he contributed to the umpire program long before we had an Amateur Softball Association. Elmer umpired from 1957 until 1980 for twenty-four years. During his career, he umpired at least 120 ASA tournaments which included ten District and five State tournaments. In the latter part of his career, he umpired in ten Regional and two National tournaments. Administratively, Elmer was president of the Virginia Beach Umpires’ Group in 1965 and 1966. At the same time, he conducted Umpire and Rules Clinics. When he started, he received sixty cents a game and was glad to get it. Elmer Zartman was a big part of our beginning. |
