At the age of fifteen, Emory began playing with the St. Pius Church and in 1967 played in his first ASA National Slow-Pitch tournament.  After that first National, Emory competed in nine ASA National tournaments at all levels including the Open division, Major Industrial and Class A Industrial.  While competing in these tournaments, Emory was named to the first team All-American squad three times and had a career batting average in national play of over .600.  In addition, Emory finished in 1971 ASA nationals in York, Pennsylvania as the second leading hitter.  Additional recognition came to Emory while competing in six National Fire Department tournaments where he was named to the All-Fire Department Team three times.  Besides his national recognition, Emory played on numerous state championship teams and won every award available in tournaments including best outfielder, best hitter, most valuable player and all-tournament team.
