Emory had been a part of the ASA family since 1943 when he started playing at the age of twelve.  He was a player for twenty-five years winning numerous Newport News City titles and playing in several State tournaments.  To go with this, Emory was an ASA umpire for twelve years and the Peninsula Umpire-In-Chief for ten years.  He was also the Deputy Commissioner for ASA softball for the Peninsula and the Williamsburg area for four years.   After  his retirement from the player, umpire and commissioner roles, Emory served on the ASA Hall of Fame Committee for five years.  At the time of his induction, he owned Riverdale Trophies and regularly donated time and materials to help improve the ASA program.
