Forest ‘Lefty’ Dill

Forest (Lefty) Dill started his softball career when he entered the Navy in 1955 and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. In addition to playing for the Navy, he also played for Hecht’s, Merchant & Farmer’s Bank, Manning Brothers, and Book of Knowledge in the Portsmouth City Major League. He pitched many no-hitters while winning the league title four times. In 1960, his team won the All-Navy title and played in the National tournament in New York. In the 1961 National tournament, he beat the world famous Clearwater Bombers, which went on to win the title. Lefty won many MVP awards and made All-Star teams. He closed out his career in the early seventies with District titles in Maryland and Ohio. |
