George Carty

Player

Inducted 1987

George started his playing career in 1960 and, twenty-seven years later, at the time of his induction, he was still going strong.  This is a feat in itself considering a serious ankle injury almost ended his playing days.  Although not one of Tidewater’s big name players, George was one of the players that always gave the proverbial 110% each and every day.  No matter if it was getting the clutch base-hit or making the diving catch, George was always there to give all a coach could ask for and was the type of player that teams are built around.  Through the years, George won three MVP honors, played in nine State tournaments that included 12”, 14” and 16” balls.  He also went to the 1961 Church National Tournament, the 1968 16” National Tournament, the 1975 Class A National Tournament and the 1983 and 1984 Class C Invitational National Tournament.  In addition, George excelled in Tidewater having been on three C.A.C. championship teams and had a lifetime batting average of over .480.
