George ‘Whitey’ Cooper

Legends

Inducted 2002

George ‘Whitey’ Cooper played twelve years from 1958 through 1969 for two of the better teams during that era.  With Tiller’s Taxi, one of the TVASA Hall of Fame teams, he played in seven State championships and in two National Church tournaments.  His teams won eight Norfolk City titles in the strong Municipal League with Whitey contributing greatly.  In each of those years, Whitey led his team in one or more of three important categories (batting, homeruns and RBIs).  He made the Municipal League All-Star Team five times.  Whitey was recognized as one of the best fielding first-basemen of his time.  His tall, lean body appeared to stretch across the infield to take a throw.  Whitey was inducted in the Legend’s category as a slow-pitch player.
