Gilbert F. Everton, Sr *

Commissioners’ Selection

Inducted 1998

Gilbert Everton was born in 1916 and passed away in 1997.  In between, he spent a lot of time on baseball and softball fields.  The first thirty years, he was association with baseball.  When softball became a more popular sport, Gilbert was involved as a manager, scorekeeper, and supporter for over thirty years.  Every night and on weekends, Gilbert was on the field to support such teams as The Piledrivers, Virginia Door, South Norfolk Eagles, South Norfolk A’s, and the Aristocats (a girls’ youth team).  He supported these teams through the Regional and National tournaments.  The game needs supporters and rooters and Gilbert Everton was a big part of those categories.  He is recognized as giving just as much of his time to the game as the players and managers.  The game needs this kind of person and Gilbert is worthy of this honor.
