Horace ‘Chick’ Horton * Player Inducted 1999
Chick Horton played softball for eleven years from 1941 through 1951. In 1941 and 1942, he pitched every game for the South Norfolk Baptist Team and was league All-Star both years. His team was the Southside League champions and qualified to play in the State Championship in Charlottesville. Chick pitched every game as his team won the State Championship. From 1942 through 1946, he was in the Army Air Force where he continued to play softball and had an ERA of 2.00. He returned in 1946 and pitched for the South Norfolk Athletic Club. Chick played in three leagues and pitched all of his team’s games. His team won the State Championship in 1946. In 1946, he pitched a perfect game striking out twenty of twenty-one batters.
