Iris started playing with youth and teens in the church league in the 1960's. After high school and joining the Air Force she started playing at Langley Air Force base in Hampton. This was her introduction to competitive softball.
In 1971 she stared with the Poquoson Islanders and played in the Newport News league from 1973 to 1996. She has also played for teams: Jesters, Manley's, Red Baron, Bay Skippers, Yogurts Inn, Skoops and was a pick-up player for the Travelers. She played in numerous Metros, Regionals, 15 State and 20 Nationals.
Her involvement with Newport News women's softball league has encompassed in excess of 25 years where she also served as a Past League President. In 1998 she received a service and Commitment Award from the Newport News Women's Softball League.
