J. B. Eason, III *
Inducted 1988
J. B. started his softball career in 1956 playing fast-pitch for four years in Hickory. Then, he switched to the slow-pitch game where he played in four ASA National tournaments with the Hall of Fame Virginia Door team. In his second National tournament, J.B. hit six homeruns and batted .750 overall. Over the years, J.B. won numerous Most Valuable Player awards and Most Outstanding Outfielder accolades. Locally, J.B. was the nucleus for such teams as South Norfolk Loan, Great Bridge Contractors, Malbon Brothers, Mount Pleasant Mennonite, Virginia Door and South Port Builders. With a lifetime hitting average of approximately .600, J.B. was best known for his unorthodox batting style (attacking the ball before it reached the plate).
