Jack White *
Player
Inducted 1984
Jack first played fast-pitch softball with the U.S. Army in 1956, being selected to the All-Army Team his first year. From 1958-1960, he led his Portsmouth teams in homeruns and batting average and in 1960 played against The King and His Court. He started playing slow-pitch in 1961 and in 1967 went to his first National tournament. Jack played in a total of five National tournaments and was a member of the 1971 National Champion Open Slow-Pitch Team (Virginia Beach Piledrivers) and was considered by many to be the first “big time” slow-pitch player in our area. With his flair for the homerun and great defense up the middle, he will be remembered by softball players and fans for years to come.
