James entered our Hall of Fame as  the  most successful fast-pitch manager in the Tidewater area.  James managed his teams to nine Metro championships, two State championships, ten Regional tournaments in which  his  team (Foxhill) won two, and three National tournaments finishing sixth once, and seventh twice.  His managing record was 611 wins, 192 losses, and three ties.  During his twenty-three years as manager of Foxhill, he was also a rostered  player and participated in many championship tournaments.  In the 1968 Regional Fast-Pitch Tournament, he was the leading hitter.  In 1974, ‘Big Ears’ was chosen as Co-Man of the Year by the Peninsula Sports Club.
