Joe Baines

With the exception of Tom Beck, no other individual has done as much to progress the game of softball than Joe.  Joe served as Deputy Metro Commissioner, Commissioner, umpired, managed and played softball for over thirty years.  Joe was responsible for the first large, successful program in the Tidewater area, from which many of the other Commissioners have patterned their respective activities.  Joe participated and played in seven National tournaments and coached several players on to All-American status.  MTASA owes Joe Baines a deep sense of gratitude as does all of softball.
