John Ashberry played softball from 1975 until the time of his induction for a total of twenty-five years.  He played with some of the better teams on the Peninsula such as The Bandits, Hazelwood and Green Machine.  John had a lifetime batting average of .650 for 3,000 games and was considered to be one of the better defensive players for the past twenty-six years prior to 2001.  John played in five Metro tournaments, seven Regional tournaments, and two National tournaments.  During that time, he received eleven MVP awards and was named All-Star in four tournaments.  Each year, he was the team leader displaying hustle and the spirit to win.
