John Sanderlin umpired from 1972 through 1997 for a total of twenty-five years.  During those years, he umpired in twenty-five Metro tournaments including men, women, and youth.  He umpired in twenty Regional tournaments (both men and women).  He also umpired three National tournaments and was one of two local umpires assigned to the first Men’s Forty and Over Slow-Pitch National Tournament.  He served on the Umpires’ Grievance Board and Umpires’ Executive Board.  In 1992, John received the Umpires’ Excellence Award.  John was one of those umpires that could control a game without throwing anyone out.
