Johnny Dollar
Inducted 1984
Johnny started playing softball full-time in 1968. In 1971, he earned All-American honors for the first time in helping his team to the National Championship. For that year, he batted .638 and hit seventy-six homeruns. In his seven years of National play in Virginia, he never hit below .600 and averaged sixty homeruns a year. Johnny is one of but a few people who have won the MVP and Most Valuable Outfielder awards in the C.A.C. Tournament. Along with his hitting, Johnny was also known for his spectacular defensive plays in the outfield. He played in a total of nine Regional tournaments and eight National tournaments. In 1983, he again was voted to the All-American Team as well as MVP in the Men’s Class B National Tournament. In 1977, Johnny played in the Pro Softball League with Baltimore, making All-Pro, and in 1978 with Philadelphia. Johnny earned MVP honors in just about every major tournament on the East coast. At the time of his induction, he was living in Louisiana and was still playing, leading his teams there to two more National tournaments and a second-place finish in 1983. |
