Larry Bowman

Umpire

Inducted 1987

Larry’s selection into the Hall of Fame was an easy one for the Committee.  This was because Larry was always a leader in all phases of Tidewater ASA softball.  In the mid 1970s, Tidewater had no ASA softball for youths so, in 1978, Larry became the first ASA Youth Commissioner and remained as the leader of his program until 1985.  During those years, Larry helped put Tidewater Junior Olympic Softball on the ASA map by hosting numerous Regional tournaments and sending many great teams to compete in National tournaments.  During Larry’s spare time, he umpired since 1971 until his induction.  To show everyone that he wanted to be the best, he kept working on his game and was selected to work over thirteen Regional tournaments and two National Industrial tournaments in 1978 and 1979.  Finally, Larry was the manager of the Virginia Beach Sun Devils since 1983.  During this time, his teams won four Tidewater Championships, one Regional title, two runner-up awards and were the Central Atlantic Regional representative in the 1984, 1986 and 1987 ASA National Championships.
