Linwood started playing softball immediately after graduating from high school.  He continued to play at the time of his induction.  Over his career, he averaged forty-five homeruns a year and a .560 batting average.  In 1967, he batted .740, still in 1984 one of the highest batting averages ever recorded in area softball for a season.  In 1971, Linwood was voted to the All-American Open Slow-Pitch Team, pitching his team to the National Championship.  He played in five National tournaments and six Regional tournaments.  Linwood was the C.A.C. MVP in 1967.
