Melva Grimstead started playing as a teenager in 1953.  She then played for a women’s Pungo team and later for Bill’s Braves.  She played shortstop and was moved to pitcher (her favorite position) where she played until she retired.  She ended her career with a Fall of Fame team (The Travelers) in 1979 for a total of twenty-seven years.  Many years, she was Team Captain.  She played in six National tournaments, three Regional tournaments, three State tournaments and three State Co-Ed tournaments.
