Nick Sessoms

Player

Inducted 1984

Nick moved to our area in 1971 from North Carolina and immediately began to lead his team to the National Championship.  At the time of his induction, Nick was the only player in the history of Virginia softball to be named to the All-American Open Slow-Pitch Team twice.  In 1971, he was All-American Second-Baseman and, in 1973, was the All-American Shortstop.  In the 1973 National tournament, Nick was the second leading hitter with an .887 average and, in 1972, tied the then consecutive homerun total of six.  He played in a total of six National tournaments and was a five-time All-State/Regional Second Baseman.  At the time of his induction, Nick was the only player in the history of the C.A.C. Tournament to be named MVP and Most Outstanding Infielder more than once.  In 1977, Nick played in the Pro Softball League and was named All-Pro.  Along with his great control of the bat (never below .600), Nick was probably the finest defensive second-baseman to play the game.  During his career as a player, Nick also found time to coach youth baseball and twice carried his team to the World Series of boys’ baseball.
