Phil's first involvement in softball started in 1968 after competing a semi-pro baseball career, Ha has played for some of Tidewaters top teams including Azalea Baptist Church, Sonny's Softball, Ocean View Softball and a member of travel teams associated with the Tidewater Senior Athletic Association (TSAA).
His involvement has included coaching, serving on the nomination committee of the TSAA and serving as Past President of Tidewater ASA.
He possesses a lifetime ,600 batting average. Phil has competed in numerous Metros, Regionals, States and 5 Nationals. He has been selected All World 3 times and All Tournament 5 times.
Since 2003 Phil has competed in a number of Senior National Championships. He has been on a least 4 All Tournament Selections and in 2006 he was awarded the prestigious TSAA Cecil Shirley Sportsmanship Award.
