Phil started playing in 1966 with the Mt. Pleasant Mennonites.  In 1969, they changed their name to Virginia Door and competed on a National level.  Phil played shortstop and was a team leader and their spiritual leader as well.  He had a lifetime batting average over .500 and received numerous MVP awards.  He played a total of nine years and participated in six Central Atlantic Regional tournaments and four Major National tournaments.
