Richard "Joe" Kidd

Player

Inducted 2011

Joe started playing softball in Hawaii while stationed with the Army in the mid 1980's. His team won several base championships and he was on one occasion selected the League MVP.

Upon his return to Tidewater in 1980 he started his local career and continuously played with the top teams in Tidewater. He completed at the highest level in our area and played for such teams as Harrison's Moving and Storage, Dryden's, Bethel Baptist, Mac Tools and AETNA/DREAM co-ed team. In 1994 he ventured into the Law Enforcement Classification playing for the Norfolk Sheriff Dept. in Law Enforcement CLASS A Division.

While playing for these teams he was involved with over 10 Tidewater Championships winning 14 City Championships in Norfolk, Portsmouth and Chesapeake. He has competed in National Tournaments and was a valuable part of 1 National Church title. He has been selected to numerous All Tournament teams and has been honored to be selected as the Tournament MVP player 8 times at the "A" Division or National level.

Softball has taken Joe all over the United States and Canada and he has played with too many Hall of Famers to name. A heart condition curtailed Joe's playing career however he has turned to coaching in an effort to give back. He has been coaching AAU, American Legion, Select and high school baseball to maintain the "RUSH" of competiveness and has even coached one player who has played professionally in Turkey.
