Ron Yost *

Ron Yost started his softball career in 1951 and some forty years later was still active at the time of his induction. He umpired in both the fast- and slow-pitch game. During the height of his career, he umpired in several Central Atlantic Regional tournaments. He held the distinction of umpiring in the first Regional tournament that was conducted in Richmond, Virginia in 1969. He was the commissioner of the Southeastern Tidewater Officials’ Association. Ron was an ASA registered umpire for over thirty-five years. In 1968, Ron was appointed the ASA District Commissioner for the City of Portsmouth. He held that position for twelve years before resigning. In 1985, Ron returned as a Deputy Commissioner for Tidewater Virginia ASA, a position he still held at the time of his induction. Ron coordinated two ASA National Industrial tournaments played in Norfolk and Portsmouth. In 1975, Ron organized the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Industrial League. Other accomplishments for Ron included being both a player and manager in fast- and slow-pitch softball. In 1960, his team won the first Virginia State Co-Ed tournament.
