Spud Guinan
Commissioner’s Selection
Inducted 2001
Spud Guinan first played fast-pitch softball in 1936. When World War II started, Spud joined the service. While in the Navy, Spud coached fast-pitch softball at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in 1942. Softball was put on hold when he was assigned to serve on ships until the war ended. He then coached from the late 1960s through 1985. Spud fell in love with the softball game and became a regular attendee at all softball tournaments from 1985 until the time of his induction. Each weekend, you could see Spud at the fields. He was the first one there and the last one to leave. Spud is a loyal and avid supported of ASA softball and very worthy of this honor. |
