Virginia Beach Piledrivers
Team
Inducted 1984
In 1971, the Virginia Beach Piledrivers became the only softball team in Virginia history to win a major title, winning the Major Open Slow-Pitch Championship in Parma, Ohio. In its brief two-year history, this team won 175 games while only losing 35. There were 1,030 homeruns hit and the team batting average was 530%. There were five All-American and two MVPs of the National tournament on its roster. The Piledrivers were the first softball team to recruit players on a large scale and to travel extensively to play in tournaments. In traveling all over the East coast to defend its title, many softball experts believe this team revolutionized the type of play in the Major Division. |
