The history of WAWAS softball starts with Military Tradition and Commitment, This team started in 1984 as the Naval Air Station Varsity Team in the Tidewater Military Varsity League. The Oceana team lost their 1st game in the League and ran off 37 consecutive wins to League and Tournament Championships. After dominating the League the WAWAS started playing in the Virginia Beach City League and weekend Tournaments. With Military transfers and deployments the team added players from Dam Neck and later added Civilian (non-active) personnel. The team's goal and character was to always compete at the highest level Tidewater offered.

The WAWAS recorded 17 City of Virginia Beach Summer and Fall League Championships, competed in seven Tidewater Championships and won two. They won the Virginia State Military Championships each year until the program stopped. The team competed in 4 Nationals and 15 State Championships. The WAWAS won the 1st Virginia State National Softball Association Tournament an 1991 and went on to place 5th of 128 in the National Tourney at Stone Mountain, Georgia. The team claimed over 75 League and Tournament Championships in the 14 year history.
