Wilmer Jones
Inducted 1989
At the time of his induction, Wilmer Jones was one of the best pitchers Tidewater ASA Softball had ever had. For thirty years, Wilmer kept opposing hitters off-stride with his masterful pitching ability. Wilmer was part of such teams as Jerry’s Kitchen, Chesapeake Realty, the Hall of Fame Virginia Door team and, in 1989, the Calvary Presbyterian Church team. Over the years, Wilmer participated in more than 1,300 games, four ASA National tournaments and had a record of 590 wins and 94 losses with Virginia Door. He also holds a record of 7-1 against the 1971 ASA National Champion Virginia Beach Piledrivers. During the Virginia Door years (1967-1973), Wilmer was named to six All-Tournament teams. To go with these credits, at the time of his induction, Wilmer held the overall win record for the Chesapeake Athletic Club annual tournament. |
